The Schools

Ninda Primary School is one of the schools we are working with. It is a new school located in Nkiriza Village. It's a school with 871 students and 24 teachers. There are two shifts, morning and afternoon. Each has roughly 400 children present, as there simply isn’t enough space for all 800+ students at once. The students who attend this school come from Nyabutaka, Kabagorozi, Kansoro, Kareba, Nkiriza, Garuka, Ntarama, and Riboneye Villages, which are all relatively close by but are long distances to walk with. These villages are part of three Cells, which are Kabeza, Ninda, and Muhabura in Nyange Sector. In a cell, there are multiple villages, and there are multiple cells inside a sector. A cell is like a county. Ninda school is one of the only public schools in the sector catering to so many children. The main objective of building Ninda School was to address the educational needs of children in the Ninda Cell and surrounding areas. Prior to its establishment, there was limited or no access to formal education for many children in the community. By providing primary and nursery schools, children have the opportunity to receive quality education close to their homes. Before the construction of this school, the children used to walk a long distance toward different schools in other cells, which most walk up a hill, and because of this, many children did not attend school because it was very far from their homes.

GS Kabara school is the other school we are currently working with. It is a school located in Northern Province, in the MUSANZE District. The School was built in 1982, and in 2009, the School became Nine Years Basic Education(9YBE). This school consists of 3 levels: Nursery, Primary and Secondary (O-level). They have over 1600 students, 44 teachers, and 30 rooms. This school is one of the only state schools in the area that has a program for O-level students as well.
